Casablanca

The town of Casablanca was founded in 1515 by the Portuguese, who had destroyed the town of Anfa located at the same site on the coast of Northern Africa just years earlier. It was an important strategic port in Morocco during World War II and hosted the Anglo-American Summit in 1943

Anzio Acres

Anzio is notable as the site of an Allied Forces landing (Operation Shingle) and the ensuing a four-month battle (Anzio Campaign) during World War II. Named after a prewar resort town in Italy, the campaign lasted from January until May 1944. The campaign accomplished several goals. The presence of a significant Allied force behind the German main line of resistance, uncomfortably close to Rome, represented a constant threat. The Germans could not ignore Anzio and were forced into a response, thereby surrendering the initiative in Italy to the Allies.
